You’re Invited— Roosevelt Groundbreaking Ceremony

Let’s celebrate! Roosevelt Elementary School is excited to announce a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction for its new early childhood learning building and library. The event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., on the Roosevelt campus.

The early childhood learning building is designed to offer a nurturing and supportive space tailored to the needs of our youngest learners, encouraging growth and development in a safe, inspiring setting. Meanwhile, the new library will provide students with access to modern resources and cutting-edge technologies, fostering a vibrant environment for exploration and learning.

These new facilities reflect the District’s ongoing commitment to creating future-ready learning environments that empower students to achieve their full academic and social-emotional potential. This transformational project will serve Roosevelt students and the greater Santa Monica community for decades to come.

“This groundbreaking marks an exciting milestone for our Roosevelt community,” said Roosevelt Principal Dr. Amy Onyendu. “It represents our commitment to creating learning environments where our youngest learners can thrive from day one. For students, it’s the start of a journey in spaces designed with their growth in mind. For staff, it’s an investment in the tools they need to teach and inspire. And for parents and caregivers, it’s a visible promise that we’re building a future where every child has the foundation to succeed!”

Students, families, and staff are invited to join the celebration of this milestone as Roosevelt Elementary embarks on this exciting new chapter. After the program, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments.

The childhood learning building and library is funded by Measure QS, approved by Santa Monica voters in November 2024.

Adjacent to the library, three state-of-the-art Transitional Kindergarten classrooms and four kindergarten classrooms will be built, featuring teacher collaboration areas and age-appropriate play yards.

The new structures will total approximately 17,000 square feet and will seamlessly integrate with the historic courtyards of the adjacent buildings while preserving Roosevelt’s cherished community identity.
