Dear Roosevelt Community,
Welcome! My name is Lacy Wetmore, and I am excited to be acting as your PTA President for our new 2025-2026 school year. I am joined by an incredible Executive Board as well as dedicated PTA members who chair events and activities throughout our school year. This will be my first year as president having previously served in the role of Recording Secretary, Yearbook Chair, and the 1st VP of Budget and Finance. My son is starting his middle school journey at Lincoln this year and my daughter is entering into the 4th grade. I would love for you to become a member of our PTA! Our PTA meetings are held the first Thursday of every month right after drop-off in the Auditorium and over Zoom.
Roosevelt PTA embraces all families and is grateful to folks like you who show up to volunteer in whatever capacity you are able. We host a mix of fundraising, but more importantly, community building events over the course of the year. One of our first events is Reflections, a statewide program, where students are challenged to get inspired and flex their creative muscles as they relate to a specific theme. This year’s theme is, “I Belong!” We also hold the Fun Run in the spring, where each grade participates in a marathon-like event with parents, teachers, and staff cheering them on. We organize many social events, one of our most popular being Pier Pleasure, in which Santa Monica Pier is closed to members of the general public and our school takes over the pier for a night of thrills and lots of fun. Keep an eye out for our major fundraising events, the Online Auction and Roosevelt Reads. And know that all of this is made possible with support from parents, family, and guardians like you. There is no donation, of money or time, that is too small. We are excited to welcome and put to use your talents, your ideas, and your energy. Please be sure to read our Teddy Times newsletter, e-mailed to families every Sunday, to keep up to date with the latest events and opportunities to volunteer.
To better understand how Roosevelt is able to accomplish so many amazing things throughout the year, I want to breakdown the financial donations we receive. We are the direct beneficiary of two fundraising campaigns.
1) The Santa Monica Education Foundation raises money for “staff,” primarily our Instructional Aides for grades TK-2nd, the PS Arts classes for TK-5th, and development workshops for all our TK-5th grade teachers.
2) The Annual Giving campaign raises money that the PTA uses to purchase “stuff” for our school, like educational software, classroom materials, and supplies for the nurse’s office, library, and PE department. Please join me in supporting both of these campaigns to enrich the education and experiences of our children.
In closing, I want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about our wonderful Parent Teacher Association. I look forward to seeing you on campus and growing our sense of community. Please never hesitate to say, “Hello!” or, “Do you know if tomorrow is a half day?” We are all in this together!
