Principal’s Message

Hello, Roosevelt Families —

He’s here! We are so happy to share the arrival of our son, Anayo Elias Onyendu, born on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

Anayo (ah-NAH-yoh) means “joy has come,” or “bringer of joy,” and that is exactly who he is. His name reflects the happiness, love, and blessings he brings into our lives.

We are all doing well and soaking in this very special time as a family. We are incredibly grateful for the care, kindness, and support of this wonderful Roosevelt community. We can’t wait for him to meet his extended Roosevelt family.

Beginning Monday, April 27, SMMUSD retired principal Barry Yates will step in as the long-term principal for the remainder of the school year. He will take on full principal responsibilities, working in close collaboration with Ms. Warren, who will continue to be a consistent and steady presence, helping to keep all systems running smoothly and ensuring that communication and follow-through remain strong.

Mr. Yates brings a wealth of experience and a thoughtful, student-centered approach to leadership. His role will be to maintain stability, support our staff and students, and help carry forward the important work already in motion at Roosevelt. Our goal is a seamless transition and a strong finish to the school year.

With gratitude,
Dr. O!

More exciting news! Congratulations, Ms. Franchi, on your new baby boy!

We are so happy to share that another member of our Roosevelt family has joined the world. Ms. Franchi welcomed baby boy Ziggy Paul Morris on April 8, at 1:32 p.m.

Ms. Franchi and her family are doing well and enjoying this special time together. We can’t wait to welcome this newest little member to our Roosevelt community
