Starting November 3, 2025, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) is implementing a new Mobile Communication Devices Policy.
School-issued lockable pouches for personal cell phone devices, also known as Yondr pouches, will now be mandatory at SMMUSD schools to enforce a phone-free school day and minimize distractions. The immediate priority will focus on the middle and high school, but the policy applies to all K–8 schools.
