Hello, Roosevelt Families,
Welcome back! I hope your family had a chance to slow down, enjoy time together, and recharge over the past two weeks. We are excited to open our doors again and jump into this final stretch of the school year with fresh energy and focus.
Before the break, our Open House was a true highlight. Seeing students proudly share their work, families connecting with teachers, and classrooms filled with joy and curiosity was a powerful reminder of what makes Roosevelt so special.
Thank you for showing up, engaging, and celebrating learning alongside your children. It meant a lot to our entire staff and, most importantly, to your students.
As we return, this is a meaningful time of year. Students have built strong foundations, and now we get to watch their confidence grow even more. There is still so much learning, growth, and celebration ahead. We are grateful for our dedicated staff who continue to pour so much care into each day, and for you, our families, whose partnership makes all the difference.
Keeping Roosevelt Safe and Welcoming
As we settle back into routines, we want to continue working together to ensure our campus remains a safe, welcoming place for everyone:
- Please make sure all exterior doors stay closed and locked. All visitors should enter through the main office on Lincoln Avenue.
- Let’s continue modeling kindness and respect in all interactions. Our shared commitment helps every child feel a sense of belonging.
Celebrating Our Community
We also want to take a moment to recognize some of the incredible people who support our students every day. During the break, we celebrated National Assistant Principals Week, and early April marked Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. We are so thankful for Mrs. Warren and our amazing paraeducators, whose dedication, care, and hard work make a lasting impact across our school.
Looking Ahead to Spring
The weeks ahead are filled with exciting opportunities. Class performances, art and music showcases, and end-of-year celebrations are just around the corner. These moments highlight the creativity and growth of our students. Be sure to check your classroom newsletters and our school calendar so you do not miss out.
Working Together with GRIT
As we move forward, we continue to center our work around G.R.I.T., which stands for Growth, Respect, Integrity, and Tenacity. This is a great time to talk with your child about finishing the year strong, staying focused, and continuing to make positive choices.
Caring for Our Campus
We also ask for your support in reminding students to take care of our shared spaces. Keeping our campus clean, especially restrooms and common areas, helps everyone feel safe and respected. Integrity means doing the right thing at all times, and we encourage students to speak up to a trusted adult if they see something that does not feel right.
A Few Important Reminders
- Please do not send candy or toys to school, as they can be distracting during the day.
- Personal devices such as phones, tablets, or gaming systems should remain in backpacks while on campus to support focused learning. Please note that we are not responsible for any of those items while on campus.
Thank you for your continued partnership, care, and trust. We are looking forward to a strong and joyful finish to the school year together.
In partnership,
Dr. Amy Onyendu

Character Trait of The Month March/April: Good Judgment
Book of the Month: If Everybody Did by Jo Ann Stover
Talking Points for If Everybody Did
Focus Phrase: We use good judgment at Roosevelt to take care of our classrooms, school, homes, community, and environment.
Good Judgment is a powerful character trait that helps students make thoughtful choices, solve problems responsibly, and consider the impact of their actions on themselves and others.
Throughout March and April, our teachers will engage students in conversations, activities, and reflections that explore what it means to pause, think critically, and make decisions with integrity — even when it may be difficult. Students will learn that good judgment involves weighing options, anticipating consequences, and choosing what is safe, respectful, and responsible.
We invite families to continue these conversations at home by talking through everyday decisions and encouraging children to reflect on their choices. Whether it’s handling a disagreement, managing responsibilities, or navigating peer situations, these moments provide valuable opportunities to practice good judgment.
Together, we can help our students understand that strong decision-making skills build confidence, trust, and a positive school community.
IMPORTANT PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF SAFETY REMINDER
The safety of our students is our top priority, and we want to ensure that our pick-up and drop-off procedures at the school gates are as safe and efficient as possible. With that in mind, we would like to remind everyone of the following safety guidelines:
- Lincoln and 9th Street are for loading/unloading ONLY:
Keep circling until you see your child.
Do not wait at the curb.
Do not leave your car and go look for your child. - No Double Parking: Do not double park your vehicle. This obstructs traffic flow and can create hazardous conditions.
- Mind the Crosswalks: NEVER drop your child off on the opposite side of the street. Be especially cautious near crosswalks and pedestrian areas. Always yield to pedestrians and allow them to cross safely.
- Be Patient & Set a Positive Example: As parents, your behavior sets an example for your children. Please be patient and considerate of other parents and guardians while modeling safe and responsible driving practices.
- Please be mindful that the Staff Parking Lot is for STAFF ONLY: Entry and exit are prohibited from 2:45 – 3:15 p.m. daily.
Forgotten Items & Lost & Found
Our Main Office does NOT accept items that were forgotten and left at home! This includes homework, backpacks, water bottles, lunches, outerwear, instruments, etc. If your child forgets their lunch, we will provide him/her with a free lunch from the cafeteria. It is important for your child to experience the natural consequences of having forgotten an item they were expected to bring to school. This is a great way to learn and nurtures a sense of responsibility and independence.
As a reminder, please label your child’s items so we can help return them quickly!
